The SVRA Vintage Festival Weekend (May 14 – 16) at Elkhart Lake’s Road America kicked off the vintage car season for Wynnfurst Racing. Jeff Miller took to the track in his #0 Kohler Powered 1976 Lola T496 Under 2 Liter Can Am car in the Group 7 class. The SVRA Vintage Festival Weekend ran a feature race on both Saturday and Sunday for each class.
Saturday’s 1:45 pm race was looking questionable as rain was forecast for the Road America area most of the afternoon. However, the race took the green flag under dark skies but a dry track. Jeff ran a great race, holding the lead in the Group 7 class and as the race neared the end, the rain came. With cars sliding around on track, Jeff drove a great race and was able to hold onto the lead, bringing home his first win of the season.
Sunday brought race two but under sunny skies and warmer temperatures. The weather was perfect for the 6-cylinder 2 stroke Kohler Engine that powers Jeff’s Lola T496. Race two of the weekend saw another victory for Jeff in the Group 7 class. “The engine ran flawlessly, we couldn’t have asked for more perfect weather today,” said Jeff.
Another successful weekend for Wynnfurst Racing is in the books. Following two wins for Jason Miller in the SCCA Mark Amenda Majors at Blackhawk Farms just two weeks ago, the crew did a masterful job switching gears to the Vintage program and giving Jeff a car capable of sweeping the top step of the podium.
Next up for Wynnfurst Racing is the WeatherTech Chicago Region SCCA June Sprints at Road America, June 4 – 6. Jason Miller will compete in his Kohler Powered Wynnfurst in the Prototype 1 class.
