The 2023 racing season officially got underway this past weekend for Wynnfurst Racing. The team headed down to Blackhawk Farms Raceway for the SCCA Mark Amenda Memorial Majors. This was a doubleheader event weekend with qualifying and a race on Saturday and qualifying and a race on Sunday. It was a cool and rather wet weekend but a very successful one for the team and Jason Miller in his Kohler Powered / Wynnfurst Prototype 1 class entry.
Saturday started with rain and a slightly wet qualifying session where Jason dominated. Qualifying on the pole position for the Saturday race and finishing the session with a lap time about 7 seconds faster than the next closest competitor. The Saturday race was run under dry conditions and Jason jumped to the lead from the pole and never looked back, putting most of the field a lap down by the checkered flag and bringing home the first victory of the season.
While Saturday was a mix of rain and dry conditions, Sunday was a wet cold day with rain all day. Jason again brought the field to the green flag from the pole position and led the field the whole race bringing home victory number two of the weekend. It was an impressive drive in the rain and a very wet track.
Two pole positions and two first overall victories was a great way to kick off the 2023 season for the team. Jeff and the crew spent a lot of time on the dyno this winter developing the engine and powertrain to find performance gains and improve reliability. The hard work showed as everything ran flawlessly all weekend.
Up next for the team is the SVRA Spring Vintage Weekend at Road America May 19 - 21. Check back soon for our weekend schedule.
