There is a saying that we hear at the track, "that's racing." That sums up our weekend at Road America for this years SCCA CAT Majors. The June Sprints just a month ago were near perfect for Jason and the team. Unfortunately, the racing luck ended and the CAT Majors were a valuable learning weekend and the results do not reflect the overall performance of the car, the Kohler Engine and the Hoosier Tires this weekend.
Saturday's race saw Jason starting second along side semi pro driver James French. Jason was holding his own in second place when a debris field caused a cut tire. The crew got the tire changed quickly but in a 20 minute timed race, a stop for a tire is hard to over come. Jason finished Saturday's race in 5th place.
Jason was set to line up 4th for the Sunday Race. With James French not making the final call for the race, Jason rolled off the grid in third. He quickly jumped to first on the opening lap and was pulling out a nice lead. Unfortunately again, the water pump hose broke bringing Jason into the pits. The crew did an amazing job getting the hose back on, refilling the water and restoring water pressure all in a very quick amount of time. Jason was able to get back out on track and we were able to bring home a 5th place finish again.
While we went from a double win at the Sprints to a double 5th here at the CAT Major's, we still had a strong showing. The Kohler Engine was flawless all weekend. The car ran great in the heat and we learned a lot about the our tires and set up for the Runoffs. Despite the unfortunate luck, Jason was running at the front or in front in both races. The team will spend time going over the car now and making sure everything is in tip top shape prior to the 2019 SCCA National Championship Runoffs at VIR.
The team switches gears very quickly now as we will be back at Road America this weekend for the WeatherTech International Challenge. Both Jeff and Ron will compete in this coming weekends event. This event is a great collection of vintage cars. With the racecar parade on Friday night and the sports car concours on Saturday night in downtown Elkhart there is something for everyone! We hope to see you at the track, or downtown Elkhart on Friday night!
